Handmade Japanese candles are crafted from 100% natural sumac (Haze tree) wax, a rare material exclusive to East Asia. Artisans at DAIYO in Shiga Prefecture create each candle by wrapping molten wax around wicks made of WASHI paper, rush weeds, and silk fibers.
These candles burn steadily with a larger flame than Western candles and produce less soot and odor when extinguished. These Sumac Wax Candles are commonly used in Buddhist temples throughout Japan.
Only around 10 master candle-makers exist in Japan, ensuring each piece is truly unique. The hollow wicks, made of rolled WASHI paper and rush weeds, are secured with silk fibers, resulting in a beautifully stable burn.
A spiked candle stand is required with these traditional candles. Pairs perfectly with the Koma Stand in Small.
